Saint of the Day posts information almost daily on a Saint, using the biography provided by American Catholic. You can subscribe to the email newsletter here.
This community is modeled loosely after wordoftheday.
Occasionally I will post current news about Catholicism and matters of interest to the Catholic doctrine.

How many Saints are there?
Because the first official canonization didn't take place until 993, records on the official count of Saints are questionable. The original edition of Butler’s Lives of the Saints, published between 1756 and 1759, had 1,486 entries. The 1956 revision contained 2,565, and another revision is underway.
According to Catholic Online, "There are over 10,000 named saints and beati from history, the Roman Martyology and Orthodox sources, but no definitive 'head count.'"

There is no complete and exhaustive listing of all the saints or people who are claimed to have been saints, but they are all fascinating to Catholics, Christians, all other religions, and athiests alike. The pagan, ritualistic and almost cult-like aspects of the Catholic church are evident in the study of the Saints.

ALL ARE WELCOME.
